Week 1: Introduction To The Unit

Topics we covered:

  • Explaining the collaborative project
  • Level of standards expected
  • Expectations of professionalism
  • Pipeline to be used
  • Supervisors of the project
  • Concept development
  • Story development, and idea pitching
  • Explanation of how to work to the assignment
  • Blog being a constantly updated diary of working with other collaborators from cross disciplines.

Objectives:

  • Self-directed project to explore topics outside of MA 3D
  • Collaborative pracetice and process
  • Define research interests
  • Critical reflection of working in teams
  • Flexible in terms of the deliverable digital outcomes

How am i going to approach this assignment?

  • Firstly, i’m going to identify my area of interest and potential group members by contacting students internally and externally to the course via email, discussing potential collaborative opportunities and areas of interest.
  • Secondly, i’ll conduct in-depth research into the area of interest, practically and theoretically, exploring and examining my chosen area of interest to see how it could relate to 3D computer animation.
  • After having my area of interest set in stone, i’ll set myself a handful of aims, identifying what i would like to learn and understand from this collaborative project.
  • During the duration of this project, i’ll note and maintain an individual record of my process of collaboration, recording and reflecting on the tools, software and methods i have used for the collaboration alongside the design decisions i make.
  • I’ll collaborate with my group members to create a piece of digital art/digital artefact, whilst considering the influence of the area of interest selected.
  • Once me and my team have designed a prototype version of our artefact, we shall then share and gather feedback from our fellow students and academic team to help optimise our project further.
  • Throughout the duration of this project, i shall screen or video capture to document my work-in-progress and any assets, whilst using voice overs and captions to provide more context, helping my audience to further understand.
  • Lastly, i’ll complete a critical evaluation, using the aims i set myself for this project, as well as the feedback i gathered from students and the academic team as guidance. I’ll reflect back at my work, describing what i would do differently, if i was to do the project again, and identify my strengths and weaknesses.

Expectations of professionalism:

  • Respect all group members, and be considerate about their boundaries, needs and concerns.
  • Take full acountabilty for any work i’m responsible for.
  • Make myself flexible about the collaborative project, becoming more useful to the team and contributing more.
  • Always willing to help a teammate out with their work, as i see their piece of work as my work if we’re looking to create the best possible version of our deliverable. Furthermore, helping teammates out will benefit our relationships, meaning i would enjoy working with them more, and could rely on them for help if needed.
  • Ask for help when needed as it may benefit our project’s deliverable, reflecting positively on our team.
