Week 1: Horror Animation Inspiration

Introduction:

In this week’s blog post, I’ll be talking about why I chose to do a Horror animation for this project and will be showing you some examples of a few short Horror animations that I would like my animation to be similar to.

This Week’s Task:

Why I decided to choose Horror for this project:

For my premise project, I chose to do a Horror animation as it was one of the strong potential topics I chose for my final year project, meaning it would be a great opportunity for me to use this chance to get some practice as I’ve never created a Horror animation before. Furthermore, I’ve always been a fan of Horror films, even though they’re not blockbuster films, they’re very watchable. On a few occasions, I’ve wondered how my interpretation of a horror narrative would turn out if I was to direct one.

Horror Animation Inspiration:

Before deciding on the narrative of my animation, I went onto Youtube and browsed through small Horror animations. I leaned more towards the animations that took place within a house or similar types of environment, as I imagined my animation would take place in a house. Furthermore, I wanted my narrative to consist of something supernatural as that’s a personal attraction for me when it comes to Horror films.

Animation 1: Gracey Manor
Animation 2: Horror
Animation 3: Scardy Cat

All the above animations are different from each other in many ways; however, they all consisted of a long duration of scenes that built anticipation and suspense, which is something I look for in a Horror film.

Objectives For Next Week:

  • Decide on a narrative for my animation.
  • Create a storyboard animatic.
  • Browse through environments for inspiration.
