Introduction:
For this week’s blog, I’ll be discussing the process I took for modelling and texturing the bedroom and upstairs hallway environment, talking you through the workflow I use. Lastly, I’ll be listing my personal objectives to complete before the end of the upcoming week.
This Week’s Task:
Searching For Assets To Import Into Environments:
Before making a start on modelling the bedroom environment, I gathered my assets first. I knew what sort of objects to include in my environment from when I was browsing through Google last week for inspiration on haunted house environments. I used my reliable website, where I usually get my 3D assets, CGTrader.com.

Modelling Bedroom Environment:
So the begin with, I began with the exterior environment, modeling the walls, floor, and ceiling. I thought this was best for me as I wanted to take things one step at a time, not overwhelming myself. After modeling the exterior design, I inserted edge loops into one wall to create the outline for the bedroom door. Furthermore, I extruded the top and bottom edges of the walls to create the wall borders.
Exterior Design:

After modelling the exterior environment, I imported all 3D assets into the environment, positioning them in their correct locations. To figure out where to position the objects, I used my own room and other teenage boys’ rooms via Google as inspiration.
Interior Design:

Now that I’ve modelled the exterior environment and have imported all objects into my environment, it was time for me to start texturing, beginning with the exterior environment. As you can see in the screenshot below, I used a seamless wooden texture, that I got from Google, to use for the floor material.
Texturing Environment:

As I’m not a specialist when it comes to texturing, I stuck with what I knew and used aiStandardSurface material to use for the majority of my objects.

After texturing the exterior environment, I moved on to texturing the interior environment which took the majority of my time to complete. However, before texturing the objects, I deleted all of their current textures which came with the objects when i imported them into my scene.

Once I finished texturing all of the geometry, I created a SkyDomeLight to have a quick preview of how my scene looks via the Arnold Render view.

I plan to come back to the objects’ textures once I set up the lighting as that’s when I will get the final appearance of my bedroom environment.
Modeling Upstairs Hallway Environment:
Now that the bedroom environment was fully modelled and textured, it was time for me to start modelling the upstairs hallway environment, beginning off with the exterior environment as I did last time. For one of the walls, I deleted a few faces off the geometry to leave some space for me for when I model my staircase hallway. I did the same as before, and inserted edge loops in my walls to create the doors’ outline, as well as extruding the top and bottom edges of the walls to create the wall borders.
Exterior Design:

Interior Design:
I didn’t need to import many objects into the scene as most hallways (from what I’ve seen) don’t consist of many objects, other than paintings, a mirror, and doors. However, I imported two CCTV cameras in the hallway as I plan to create a few surveillance scenes, as seen in my storyboard.

Texturing Environment:
As I’ve now completed the modelling for the upstairs hallway, it was time to move on to texturing the exterior environment. To be efficient, I used the same materials I used for the bedroom environment for the walls, ceiling, and wall borders as I wanted to keep a consistent appearance throughout all environments.

After texturing the exterior environment, I moved on to texturing the interior objects which didn’t take long at. For the two paintings, I got two Van Gogh paintings from Google to use for their texture. This task was fairly quick for me as it consisted of duplication mostly, meaning I had to make a could of new textures only.

Once I finished texturing the interior objects, I opened up the Render View to see how my upstairs hallway environment currently looks. I didn’t get bothered by the amount of noise as that should all change once I set up the lighting.

Objectives For Next Week:
- Search for assets to import into Staircase hallway & Downstairs hallway environments.
- Model Staircase hallway & Downstairs hallway environment.
- Texture Environments.
