Week 15: Texturing Hallway Environment & Lighting Set-up

Introduction:

In this week’s blog post, I’ll be talking about how I managed to texture the hallway environment and set up the lighting. Lastly, I’ll be listing down my objectives to complete by next week.

This Week’s Task:

To start this week off, I began by texturing the hallway environment, starting off with the exterior environment. I used a similar colour scheme here, in comparison to the train environment, as I thought it appeared well for the hallway environment. I made sure that all walls, windows, and doors borders had the same colour.

Exterior Texturing:

Once I finished texturing the exterior environment, I moved on to texturing the interior objects. I intentionally gave the lockers a different shade of blue as I didn’t want them to stand out too much, causing the scene to appear off. I made sure the doors were textured brown as I remembered I used a brown door for the classroom environment. I wanted to avoid any sort of continuirity.

Lighting Set-Up:

Now that I had fully textured my last environment, I was now ready to set up the lighting, beginning with creating a SkyDomeLight and applying an HDRI texture to it. I made sure the HDRI text was set around midday as school time occur during the day.

After setting up the SkyDomeLight, i rendered a frame out via Arnold Render View to check the environment’s current appearance.

Lights:

The last thing for me to do now is to create the hallway’s ceiling Area Lights. I created one Area Light, adjusted the settings to my preference, and duplicated it 14 times, making sure there were 5 Area Lights per hallway.

Afterward, I re-rendered a frame using Arnold Render View to check the final look of my hallway environment. I was happy with the appearance, meaning I was now ready to begin my animations.
