Week 9: Animating & Rendering Scenes 25-36.

Introduction:

In this week’s blog post, I’ll be speaking about how I managed to animate and render the final scenes of my animation, talking about the adjustments I made to the animation and why I made them. Furthermore, I’ll be talking about the problems I faced this week, and why I wasn’t able to fix them. Lastly, I’ll be listing down the last set of objectives i set myself to complete by the deadline.

This Week’s Task:

To start this week off, I began by animating the final scenes of my animation, scenes 25-36. Due to the deadline being so close now, I had to shorten my animation and end it on a different note. As certain tasks took longer than expected, I had to scrap the ending of my story and find an alternative way of ending it.

Animation:

The last portion of my scenes didn’t really consist of any novelty animations as they were fairly similar to the animations that I spoke about already in my previous blog posts. This meant I didn’t need to spend too much time on the character’s animation, causing me to further practice the character’s facial expressions.

Face Controls Selected (Eyebrows, Eyes & Mouth)

The controls I mainly played with were the eyebrows, eyes, and mouth. These controls consisted of many channels each, allowing me to experiment for a bit with them.

During these animations, I realised that I adjusted the camera settings for the cameras that were going to be used as CCTV footage. During the camera setup, I adjusted the two cameras so they appear different compared to the others, helping the audience to notice that they’re CCTV cameras.

Rendering:

For the final renders, I had to continue using Maya 2018 via remote access as the issues still weren’t solved as of yet. I continued to eyeball each scene, matching the colour up as closely as possible to the Maya 2022 version.

Problems I Faced:

One problem I noticed was that a few scenes that were set around the fridge object contained quite a bit of firefly which was off-putting to see. I knew I could fix this by going into the render settings; however, I was too short on time to re-render scenes at this stage, meaning I had to just settle with this for now.

Objectives For Next Week:

  • Composite all scenes together in Premiere Pro.
  • Post-Production: Colour Correction.
  • Post-Production: Replace scenes with After Effects Compositions.
  • Browse For Sound Effects.
  • Sync audio SFX to animation.
  • Render Final Animation.
