Introduction:
In this week’s blog, I’ll be discussing the topics we covered during our welcome back lecture, where we mainly spoke about what to expect from this unit throughout the next upcoming 10 weeks. I’ll then be talking about what we will need to do between now and tomorrow afternoon.
This Week’s Lecture:
In this week’s lecture, we started off with our lecturer going through our new timetable with us, highlighting what we should be expecting over the upcoming 10 weeks. Our new timetable consisted of a new set of lectures taught by our previous lecturer, Alan, a continuation of our thesis proposal lectures with Nigel, new workshops with a new guest lecturer, Toby, Q&A sessions with our current guest lecturer, Dominic, and supportive workshops for our first project with Herman. So that we have more of an understanding of what we will be covering, our lecturer showed us an framework, displaying the topics we would be learning each week for the FMP proposal, Advanced and Experimental unit, and the Character Rigging and Animation workshops.
Afterwards, our lecture went through the submission details again, as a reminder to us just incase we had forgotten any details. One new thing our lecturer mentioned to us was that for our second project for the Advanced and Experimental Animation unit, we would need to do a premise project, which should be treated as a small test for what we may want to do for our FMP. For this project, we were told that we would need to research and develop a ‘(small) pilot project’, to explore, test, and refine a personal creative/technical methodology (pipeline) as a ‘proof of concept’. Later, our lecturer went through the FMP assessment brief, outlining the aim of the assessment, how we should approach the FMP, and what the portfolio of work should include. The assessment brief was only a draft version and would be finalised very soon; however, more or less of what was written is final. Lastly, we had to fill out a survey regarding the digital experience the university provides for the students. The purpose of this survey was to see how the university can provide better digital service for students, and to see what’s affective and what isn’t.
This Week’s Task:
We wasn’t given any major task to do this week; however, our lecturer asked if we could prepare for tomorrow’s Rigging and Animation workshop with Toby, making sure everyone has the project file working on their personal computer to avoid any technical problems from occurring once the workshop begins. This only requires us to download the workshop folder and install the scripts into a specific folder. It was advised for us to borrow a Wacom tablet for this workshop; however, fortunately for me, i already had a graphic tablet to work with, meaning I’m all good to go.
